Why Pre- and Post-Surgical Therapy in Arlington Heights Matters

Starting rehab BEFORE surgery sets the foundation for better recovery. Here’s how:

1. Mental & Physical Preparation
Understanding what to expect before surgery reduces anxiety and improves outcomes.

2. Less Post-Surgical Pain & Inflammation
Manual therapy and movement techniques significantly reduce swelling and discomfort.

3. Restored Mobility & Flexibility
Scar tissue and muscle guarding can limit movement—we help you regain full, healthy range.

4. Regain Pelvic Floor Strength & Control
Surgery can weaken pelvic muscles, leading to incontinence, prolapse recurrence, and pain. We retrain these muscles for proper function.

5. Smoother, Faster Healing
Poor movement patterns slow healing and increase pain—we correct them so you recover pain-free.

6. Build Long-Term Strength & Stability
Rehab isn’t just about recovery—it builds lasting core strength, flexibility, and endurance to prevent future issues.

7. Confidence & Clarity in Your Recovery
You’ll never feel lost. We guide you through every step—from exercise progressions to restrictions and lifestyle adaptations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does therapy actually help, or will it cause more pain?
It’s natural to be concerned about pain, but research proves that physical therapy before surgery reduces post-op pain by over 40%. Our certified pelvic rehab specialists use gentle, effective techniques that ease discomfort, not aggravate it.

What happens during a pelvic floor therapy session?
Each pelvic floor therapy session is fully customized to your recovery stage and specific needs. Treatment may include hands-on soft tissue and joint mobilization to relieve tension and improve alignment, as well as neuromuscular retraining to enhance pelvic stability and muscle coordination. We also incorporate targeted strengthening and mobility exercises to restore function, along with pain relief techniques to alleviate discomfort.

What if I experience discomfort during therapy?
Your therapist will adjust any technique to ensure comfort and safety. We encourage open communication so we can modify treatments as needed—our goal is to help you heal, not push through pain.

I am happy to share my review of Northwest Wellness Group in Arlington Hts. After surgery for a pelvic floor prolapse, I was advised by my surgeon to have physical therapy. I was lucky to select Northwest Wellness Group in Arlington Hts for my therapy. Every aspect of my experience was great! Nordeen and Dawn were most friendly and helpful scheduling my appointments and guiding me with filling out forms. My physical therapist was Dr. Deanna Jones. She is amazing! Deanna is most knowledgeable and reassuring. Deanna is very patient and a good listener. She taught me exercises to strengthen my pelvic floor muscles and strategies to manage associated bowel and bladder problems. Often, I asked Deanna about other body discomfort I was experiencing and she always had helpful advice to offer. I told her that she knows “all!” It’s true!

I have been suffering from pelvic pain for two year, I am so happy, we found Karla Wente. My pain was so severe I felt like I had no more hope. I had been to another PT that specialized in pelvic floor and got no relief. Karla worked with my husband and I with exercises that I could do at home. Karla made suggestions that worked! Karla was so professional in maintaining a comfortable, modest experience while working on the problem. I can say after all our sessions and the tools she gave me to help with any pain, I feel so blessed we found her through the recommendation of my uro gyne. Karla has a wonderful personality and puts the patient at ease. She engaged my husband always when we discussed what procedures she did on me and the tools I could use at home. It is hard to say goodbye but I know if things ever get worse I can always come back. Thank you to Nordene and Dawn they always had a smile when we came into the office. The whole experience was something I can say was so positive, from the day I walked in thinking I had no hope to the day I walked out feeling so much better and with lots of hope!
